Commandments of Love

Over the past few weeks, we have been studying the 10 Commandments. Why did God give us these laws to follow? Are they just rules and regulations that were for people in the Old Testament?

No, these commandments from the Lord are relevant, alive and active today. In almost every government on the earth today, there are laws, rules, and regulations that bring peace. Many of these are reflected in the first laws that God gave to us, ‘Do not murder’, ‘Do not lie’, ‘Do not steal’, are among them. They keep harmony and they are meant to protect those who keep them.

God, as our loving Father, gave us these laws to protect us and to keep us from the evil one. When we don’t obey these commandments, we open ourselves up to darkness and lawlessness. We agree to become blinded by evil. God doesn’t want us to be blind or wander around in darkness. He wants us to walk in the light and His love!

In Hebrews 10:16 it says, “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.” God wants us to take these laws into our hearts and into our minds. He wants us to incorporate them into our daily lives, because they keep us safe and show us the right way to live.
